A 48-year-old man was hospitalized with a suspected broken leg after being struck by a vehicle driven by an ICE agent during an enforcement operation Saturday morning in west Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened around 7:20 a.m. on Clay Road.

Major Anthony McConnell with HCSO said ICE agents were pursuing a suspect who had an active warrant. The driver allegedly traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 6 before fleeing on foot. The driver remains at large, according to HCSO.

During the pursuit, an ICE agent struck the 48-year-old passenger while attempting to box in the vehicle near a building, McConnell said.

The passenger was taken to a hospital with what authorities believe is a suspected broken leg. He remains in ICE custody at the hospital, according to HCSO.

Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones said she was horrified to learn about the incident and called for transparency and accountability.

“ICE must cooperate fully with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and release all video evidence of this incident,” Briones said in a statement. “We demand full transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.”

Briones also expressed concern about the impact of federal immigration enforcement, saying her prayers were with the man’s family as officials work to learn more.

Rep. Sylvia Garcia also commented on the incident saying on X, “An ICE vehicle struck a man during an enforcement operation in Harris County this morning. He’s now in the hospital. We need to know exactly what happened, and ICE’s word alone is not enough. ICE has lied to the public before, and its operations have brought chaos to our communities.Preserve the evidence. Cooperate fully with investigators. Give the public the answers it deserves.”

The investigation remains ongoing.

KPRC 2 is working to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
