A multi-state manhunt ended with an arrest in Florida.
After three years on the run, it all ended for the fugitive in Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office brought the multi-state manhunt to a close after local law enforcement tracked 43-year-old murder suspect Jonathan Soto, who was on the run from Atlanta, to an apartment complex on Gate Parkway.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s SWAT team, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and City of Atlanta Police Department, with the help from the JSO Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit, surrounded the apartment Soto was hiding in.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, he refused to come out, so law enforcement used an energetic charge to open the door. After that, he surrendered on a fugitive warrant for murder and possession of a firearm.
Jonathan Soto is the suspect in the February 2023 murder of a popular business owner at the Republic Lounge in Atlanta. He was on the Atlanta Police Department’s most wanted list and was considered armed and dangerous.
“We’ll keep working with our law enforcement partners to make sure justice is served,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office posted. “Fugitives may try to run, but we’re here to stop them. Soto will now have to face the consequences for what he did in Georgia.”
